While many people are familiar with the biblical story of Noah and his Ark, very few realize the powerful message that this allegorical tale reveals. Every aspect of the ark story contains powerful symbolism.
The act of Noah building the arc and filling it with animals symbolizes the importance of recognizing and preserving the aspects of life that are precious and worthy of protection. This process requires discernment and the ability to disregard so many aspects of current life that distract us from maintaining a higher, more spiritual focus.
The arc was a strong vessel which provided protection and shelter from the storm, symbolizing the strength of conviction required to not lose ourselves in the tumult of life. The ark floats above the dark flood waters, just as we must find the courage and discipline to rise above the ways of the world and not drown in the fear, anger and despondency that plagues modern society.
The story closes with the release of a dove as the waters recede, only to have it return a short time later carrying an olive branch. This signals to Noah that a time of deliverance and a new beginning has arrived. Contained in this metaphor is the promise that if we can remain steadfast to our convictions, we will experience goodness, protection, hopefulness and peace as symbolized by the little dove with the olive branch.
The ark story inspires us to reject the chaos and confusion of life, remain righteous, stay clearly focused on a higher way of living and above all, to fill our hearts with gratitude and the understanding that we will be protected and blessed.
WE ARE ONE.
