Baruch Hashem is an ancient, widely used Abrahamic expression. It can be translated to mean ‘Acknowledge the Divine’ and is very powerful for reminding us that everything we experience, as well as everything we observe in the world around us, originates from a higher source. This powerful affirmation summons us to be grateful for all the goodness in our lives. We also accept that what appears on the surface level as challenges have a deep purpose and meaning in the higher order. By embodying the phrase Baruch Hashem, we are reminded that there is an omniscient and loving force in all of life that cannot be comprehended by man, but by acknowledgement, brings guidance and serenity into our experience. The old expression “when one door closes, a better door opens” fits well within this thinking.
